Frogs, fish, fruits and vegetables are among the things reported to have fallen from the sky. Here’s one such Fortean event, experienced by three young children, reported to The Residium by one of the eyewitnesses, our correspondent Christopher R:
“We lived in a Maryland suburb,” Christopher said. “All of us were about the same age – I was 5. We had ridden our bikes to play in a field that sat in the middle of our neighborhood. The field was elliptical in shape, about 70 yards long and maybe 50 yards across. It was bordered all-around by streets and homes, some duplex and others single family.”
“It was a sunny day – cool and not too humid, which looking back was a little unusual for that time of year (late spring). We had parked our bikes and were sitting in a little circle on the grass, close to the middle of the field.
“All of a sudden, everything around us grew quiet: The birds stopped singing, the crickets stopped chirping. It was a ‘deafening’ silence. We could not hear a thing. And the air got warm. It wasn’t a breeze or a wave, the air was still. It just, all at once, it grew quiet and got warm.
“All three of us noticed the abrupt change. But, before anyone could say anything, something dropped down from the sky. It landed on the grass, right between the three of us. It didn’t roll or move in. It just dropped straight down from above.

“We looked at it and saw it was an apple. It was one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. A big piece had been taken out of it, about a third seemed to have been bitten off or torn out. The sugars had started to blacken, the colors of decay. It looked rotten.
“You know when someone throws something your way and it lands near your feet, it bounces and continues rolling in the direction it was thrown? The apple fell as if put on the ground. Boom! It hit and landed right between the three of us, making a thump sound. There was no one else around. It could only have come straight down from above to land that way.
“We didn’t even look at each other. We just jumped on our bikes and took off for home. We never went back to look at the apple. We saw each other after that, but we never talked about what happened with each other again. We moved away a short time after that.
“You know, I can still remember like it happened yesterday.”
